This version of Joel, the Shogun of the Dark, is before he has slipped completely into the Dark. And who wouldn't want an Ally that comes on clouds of billowing flame to be on their side? Of course, the ability to use Gandalf's spells without Gandalf has potential for decks that want to minimize companions but still fear conditions, and preventing Sleep Caradhras from discarding your own Conditions can keep that all important O Elbereth or No Stranger around a little longer. And, it's always nice to have a last minute friend jump in, if you can afford the cost.
